Social Sciences Essay Writing Workshops Held
From February 26 to March 1, a series of workshops on essay writing were held at Zhentao Building. The workshops covered five major fields: history, economics, philosophy, psychology and law, and the subject teachers and students shared with the audience the norms of essay writing, the experience of participating in activities such as John Locke Essay Writing Competitions, and the methods of constructing the perspectives that fit a specific discipline.
Through the sharing of experience, the audience had a very concrete understanding of the outlining, reading reserve, draft revision, etc., and also had the opportunities to raise a lot of questions that puzzled them. The teachers gave tailor-made guidance to the students on general rules of essay writing, so that everyone could understand that unique and creative ideas and arguments need to be based on certain standards. For example, in the field of law, students learned more about the role of precedents in essay writing.
Many participants expressed that the subject-specific discussion and guidance gave them more confidence and interest in further exploration of the topics of their choices, and they would make good use of various humanities and social sciences writing platform to think deeply and convey their own unique voices.
