Lingang Grade 3: A Lawyer’s Visit to English Class
As the beginning of the second semester English course, the words "court" and "trial" opened up a new field of study for the children. In order to let the Grade 3 students better link the textbook with the real world, Dr. Yu Shengxing, Senior Partner of Haihua Yongtai Law Firm, came into the classroom to share his knowledge of law with the students on the afternoon of February 27th.
"Have you read The Trial of Cardigan Jones?" Dr. Yu used the English book students had recently studied as a lead-in to a series of questions that quickly sparked the children's interest and they raised their hands to share their thoughts about the book. He then used illustrations to introduce what the justice system is, how criminal and civil cases are handled, what are the similarities and differences between common law and civil law, and so on. Although some of the contents were a bit complicated for the third-year students, they all seriously drew the knowledge and put forward their own opinions or sought guidance from the expert in relation to the books or movies they had watched.
This activity added new vitality to classroom teaching, as students not only had the opportunity to demonstrate their existing knowledge to a professional, but also explored the subtleties of the legal profession through question-and-answer interactions.
To start off our English curriculum in semester 2, Grade 3 students have been studying courts and trials. Today, we had a wonderful educational lesson run by a highly accomplished lawyer, Dr. Steven Yu.
