Lin’gang Campus G2 | Science Lesson: Spinning the Water Cycle
During science class on February 27th, 2024, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Condie exposed their students to the wonderful world of the water cycle. Instead of being passive listeners, the students actively participated in the class, exploring and enjoying the joys of science.
Where does water come from? To answer this question, the students immersed themselves into the fascinating world of water. Through the pictures provided by their teachers, the students were able to understand and visualize the basic principles of the water cycle. Abbey, acting the little teacher, confidently held a teaching stick and explained how water evaporates from the ground, rises up to the sky, forming clouds, then finally comes back to the ground in the form of rain. Returning autonomy to the children not only allows them to understand the wonders of the water cycle, but also encourages them to express what they have learned, turning the classroom into a dynamic and interactive space.
The classroom can be "turned" back onto the students, just as the children's hands can also be "turned"! The teacher then led a hands-on activity in which the students made a beautiful water cycle spinner. They had to cut out different words and put them in the right place one by one. Look! The students put "evaporation" on the sea level to show that sea water becomes water vapor in the air through evaporation. As they posted and spun the plates, students deepened their understanding of the water cycle without even realizing it.
This is our classroom, let the words on the pages come to life in the students’ hands; let the content of the PowerPoint on the blackboard become the children's eloquent talk; let the pictures of the water cycle system become the children's spinners. The wind blows, the spinner turns, the classroom turns, and the water cycle turns to the children's hearts!
