Lanterns and colored streamers, Tasting the Lantern Festival Cuisine; the Fragrance of Calligraphy, Bridging cultures. - Shanghai High School International Division Foreign Teachers celebrate Lantern Festival
In commemoration of the approaching Lantern Festival, the Foreign Teachers’ Affairs Office of Shanghai High School International Division organized a distinctive Lantern Festival celebration on February 23, 2024. The festivities aimed to share the joy of the Lantern Festival with foreign teachers. Ms. Hu Bo, member of the Party Committee, and the Coordinator of the Foreign Teachers’ Affairs Office warmly extended her festive greetings to the foreign teachers. Ms. Zhang Zehong, Secretary of the Party Committee, Shanghai High School, Ms. Wang Ying, member of the Party Committee and Director of Shanghai High School's School Affairs Office, Mr. Ma Feng, High School Principal of Shanghai High School International Dvision, and Ms. Liu Fang, Vice-Principals of the Middle and Primary School of Shanghai High School International Division, celebrate the Lantern Festival with the foreign teachers.
The event included calligraphy, lantern making, tangyuan making, and tasting. Art teachers from the Shanghai High School Art Department were invited to guide the foreign teachers in these artistic endeavors. Displaying their talents, the foreign teachers wielded their calligraphy brushes and wrote the Chinese character "龙" (dragon), symbolizing a bright and prosperous future in the Year of the Dragon.
The foreign teachers also reveled in the joyful experience of making handmade lanterns. Under the guidance of the teachers from the Foreign Teachers' Affairs Office, they skillfully used the material packages to make unique lanterns. The handicrafts not only brought them closer to each other, but also let the foreign teachers enjoy the charm of traditional Chinese handicrafts.
How can the Lantern Festival be complete without the traditional food tangyuan? Under the guidance of Sodexo staff, the foreign teachers learned how to make tangyuan and experience the process of making traditional Chinese food. Finally, everyone tasted the freshly cooked tangyuan. The different flavors of tangyuan conveyed the sweet blessings of the Lantern Festival through sharing.
The foreign teachers of SHSID integrated into traditional Chinese culture in a unique way, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. We wish everyone a happy Lantern Festival!
