High School|2023 Art Festival
The annual High School Arts Festival took off at the Grand Auditorium on Wednesday, December 20th with such grand gusto! Let’s take a look at the jovial festival and see what happened this year.
G9-10
With teachers and students across Grades 9 and 10 gathered in the auditorium on this cold yet special winter’s day, this year’s arts festival featured a wide variety of performances, 28 in all, which included orchestra, choir, dance, and sign-language performances, as well as the teachers’ performance.
After the curtains of the 2023 Arts Festival were raised by eight eloquent and entertaining student hosts, the Wind Ensemble performed the dynamic “Vibraphonia”, immediately lifting the atmosphere in the auditorium. This was followed by singing and band performances with familiar songs and tunes, and finally the much-anticipated teachers' performance. The teachers all wore furry Disney-character costumes, bringing the students a cute dance. The atmosphere continued to heighten as it was time for the first round of the lucky draw. The String Ensemble then performed "Viva la Vida", while the Sign Language Club signed the powerful and ever popular "You Raise Me Up". The second teachers’ performance proved to be another hit with the audience, allowing everyone to have fun with guessing the location names from the acting of the teachers. Next up, the Mixed Choir warmed the hearts of the audience with the song "Chosen Family".
From group street dance, a graceful ballet solo, and ancient-style double choruses to spectacular musical theater, a multi-voice band ensemble, and the instrumental songs of the double ensemble, the performers lent their hearts and talents to bring the audience a visual and auditory feast. The second round of the lucky draw then made the audience eagerly stare at the big screen in hopes of being called. Finally, the curtains of the 2023 Arts Festival were drawn with SPDC Pop Dance Club giving an energetic performance, a dance remix.
