Stallions Fought to the End in the Jr.NBA Season Opener

November 29, 2023

The SHSID Stallions tipped off their 2023-24 Jr.NBA campaign at Nanmo on Nov. 24. The Stallions knew that this would be a tough matchup playing the defending champions on thier homecourt but the Stallions didn’t back down from the challenge.

To start the game, nerves seemed to play a part as the Stallions were defended tightly and forced into some late shot clock prayers. The size and speed of the Nanmo players posed huge challenges to the Stallions players. After a couple of nice baskets from point guard Wesley Yu though, the Stallions brought the game back to within 2 points at 13-11. Unfortunately that would be the end of the Stallions scoring for the quarter as the teams entered the second period with Nanmo up 25-11.

Scoring for the Stallions would be few and far between in the second period. But in the second half the Stallions put together some nice spurts of play and Wesley Yu started cashing in from the 3pt line, tallying 4 threes on the night.

Late in the game the Stallions fought through the fatigue of having only a 7-man rotation and pressed Nanmo full court, forcing some turnovers and creating some fast break opportunities to show that they weren’t going down without a fight.
