Music Department: 'Youth in Full Bloom' Grassland Music Festival: Grand Opening at the Oriental Pearl City Square
On November 18th, 2023, the SHS String Orchestra presented a breathtaking musical performance on the grassland music stage in the city square, delighting the citizens of Shanghai. This music festival was graced by the participation of eight top-notch student folk and Western orchestras from Shanghai, including the highly esteemed SHS String Orchestra.
During the performance, the SHS String Orchestra performed two widely recognized melodies, the Chinese classic 'Butterfly Lovers' and the 'Overture to The Marriage of Figaro.' Their heartfelt renditions earned them enthusiastic applause from the audience. Not only did this musical extravaganza delight the senses; it also showcased the hard work and dedication of the students.
Fifty students, ranging from grades 4 to 12, enthusiastically responded to the invitation from the Shanghai Science and Art Center in mid-October. They dedicated themselves to rigorous rehearsals, striving for perfection. To embrace the beauty of Chinese culture, the performance specifically included the aforementioned Chinese classic 'Butterfly Lovers,' which added a special touch to the Western-themed second half.
As the performance concluded, thunderous applause erupted from the audience. The young performers, bathed in the shimmering reflection of the Oriental Pearl Tower, exuded confident smiles, putting a perfect ending to this musical extravaganza. This event not only showcased the students' talents, but also highlighted the significance of music education in Shanghai. We look forward to seeing what musical delights these young maestros will produce in the future.
