Grade 10: Assembly—A Special Trip to Singapore

It was November 8 of 2023, a Wednesday. The coolness of autumn finally arrived as tenth-graders headed to the Lecture Hall after entering Zhentao Building to attend the first assembly after Midterms.

Andrew from Class 7 shared his experiences of playing in a basketball tournament in Singapore with his teammates. They, representing SHSID, competed with teams from around the world. The few days spent living and eating together deepened the bond between him and his teammates. This tournament was also a challenge to their time management skills. After witnessing fellow teammates catching every chance to study at the airport and on the plane, Andrew learned the importance for balancing the two identities of athlete and student in a school varsity team, and the must to devote effort for responsibilities required by both. Of course, he also admitted that academics should always be prioritized when in school. During the presentation, the audience admired the spirit of pursuing one’s interest while maintaining an unlaxing attitude toward academics.

After Andrew invited the audience to attend an important tournament on Friday, the assembly ended and the students were free to attend their first classes, beginning another day.
