Grade 9 Assembly: Rowing
Rowing, compared to other paddling sports, is not a famously, well-known sport. At the beginning of the Grade-9 assembly on November 7, 2023, Alex brought a wonderful presentation of the sport which was rowing.
Alex first introduced the history of rowing. Since the 16th century, rowing has gradually entered people's vision as a sporting event. It later developed into a high-profile Olympic sport. Unlike canoeing and other paddling sports, rowing involves all competitors traveling with their backs facing the end line. According to the different numbers of participants, rowing is divided into distinct groups, which highlights the teamwork, physical strengths, and endurance of the team members for a great experience .
As a member of the SHSID rowing team, Alex shared about his experience with rowing. He mentioned that his grandmother had competed in rowing competitions in Shanghai when she was young, and now he has taken up the chance to become a rower himself. By insisting on on-land exercises and rowing training sessions several times a week, he made unremitting efforts to achieve excellent scores. This process not only brought him valuable experience in rowing, he also made many friends, broadened his view on the sport, and learned a lesson or two of team spirit.
Through Alex's sharing, the 9th-graders had a better understanding of rowing and the benefits it can bring. It definitely inspired more students who are interested in this sport to experience the charm of rowing themselves.
