High School: Parents' School on Mental Health and Communication
On October 24, the Parent School of SHSID took place at the Xianmian Annex Auditorium. The lecture was delivered by Ms. Wei, who focused on the issue of adolescent gaming addiction and provided parents with effective communication strategies to engage with their teenagers.
First, Ms. Wei provided an analysis of the characteristics of games and online gaming, highlighting their similarities and differences. This helped parents gain a better understanding of the origins and essence of online games. Ms. Wei progressively delved into the topic, discussing the role of games, the mechanisms of gaming addiction, and offering guidance to parents on how to handle gaming-related issues and promote positive communication within the family.
As the most important mentors in their children's growth journey, parents must pay sufficient attention to these issues and possess the wisdom to solve them. Faced with their child's internet addiction, parents should first understand the situation and engage in sincere and equal communication with their child, genuinely grasping their true psychological state and needs. Based on this foundation, parents can provide appropriate guidance. Communication and guidance from parents must play a positive and constructive role, aiming to provide the child with a sense of security, love, and self-realization. Therefore, it is crucial to grasp the right methods and timing for communication, gently and gradually guiding the child. It is important to attentively listen to the child's thoughts, establish trust between parent and child, and strive for positive and constructive feedback from the child. Maintaining an open-minded attitude and respecting the child's independence and autonomy are also essential aspects.
Ms. Wei's explanation was delivered eloquently, and the parents and teachers present nodded in agreement one after another. It is believed that through this lecture, parents have gained valuable insights. When faced with their children's issues, they can adopt reasonable approaches to resolve them and establish a harmonious and beneficial family atmosphere.
