History and Geography Department: Interpreting Historical Figures from Multiple Faces

October 26, 2023

In mid-October, Mr. Sean Cordes gave a wonderful Western Civilization lesson to Grade 11 students. The whole lesson was centered on King Darius I of Persia. Firstly, teachers and students read and analyzed four documents, including the Behistun Inscription and selections from Herodotus' Histories, to understand how Darius I rose to become the "King of Kings"; secondly, they compared and contrasted these documents to find out the contradictions and analyzed the reasons, and then researched the source, background and purpose of the documents, so as to help students to acquire the ability to better understand the documents and answer the questions in a more objective way.
