Lin'gang Campus | Seek the Sea, Explore the Mysteries of the Deep Blue
The ocean gives the Earth its base color. Throughout the ages, our "communication" with the sea has evolved, which has been methodically recorded by scientists as time goes by. This week, teachers and students from the Shanghai High School International Division Lin'gang Campus came to the China Maritime Museum to learn more about mankind's turbulent and inspiring relationship with the deep blue sea.
Through history, the development of navigation relied heavily on man's ability to explore the ocean. In order to better understand this fact, the students were asked to collaborate in groups and work together to find the correct answers on the task cards provided by their teacher. While gaining knowledge, the children also earned their own "nautical medals."
Learning and knowing history is an effective way to go far, and so is sailing. The students started their "sailing journey" from the history of sailing. Following the footsteps of the ancient mariners, seeing the twists and turns of modern sailing, and feeling the vigor of China's modern sailing career... The students were all immersed in the atmosphere.
"Left, left, don't crash!" In the Children's Activity Center, the students became temporary captains, experiencing the joy of steering the ship and gradually understanding the responsibility and burden of steering a vessel smoothly. Another part of the museum, the display of a lot of ropes attracted the attention of the students. This is a nautical knot experience area. Go around the circle's left side first, then strung up... Students quickly mastered a variety of nautical knot-tying methods.
Ocean travel requires ships that are strong and able to withstand the winds and waves. What steps and materials are needed? How did the Ming Dynasty build a fast ship? What are the basic structures and equipment of modern ships? In the museum, students found the answers to these questions. In the movie theater, the students witnessed the birth of a ship, and experienced virtual welding on site to fill in the leaks completely, successfully allowing the ship to sail away.
Maritime safety, navigation knowledge, port construction. These cold concepts, which are far removed from everyday life, fill in gaps of the students' knowledge about sailing and extends their perspective of the sea more practically.
Seeing, touching, and experiencing, this national maritime museum in Lin'gang brings children not only a happy visiting experience but also the dream of sailing the sea and seeking the deep blue dream!
