History and Geography Department: Teach through Lively Activity

October 25, 2023

On the morning of October 23, Mr. Kieran Nelson boldly adopted the game of "Werewolf" in his 10th-grade History classroom to help students "immerse themselves" in the historical atmosphere of the 18th century French Revolution and to encourage them to use their learning to advance the game with a thorough understanding of the relevant background knowledge. Mr. Nelson's preparation for the game - from the sans-culottes dress code and the French brioche, to the carefully designed game cards and the elaborate game setup – successfully transformed him into the main narrator and led his students in becoming the "witnesses" of the surging French Revolution.

The students were excited in the classroom, and while participating in the game, they also consolidated the historical knowledge they had previously learned and enjoyed the fun of applying their knowledge in the context created by the teacher. This was a very attentive and creative teaching practice, and we see that teachers and students are full of expectations in the process of teaching and learning. This demonstration class also provided new teaching ideas and inspiration for other teachers in the History and Geography Department.
