Grade 12 Assembly: The Sharing of Movies

October 23, 2023

On the morning of October 20, senior-year students filed into the Xianmian auditorium for their weekly assembly. The student speaker that Friday, Jessie, introduced her passion for movies to her fellow students. She encouraged the audience to watch movies every once in a while, whether as a form of escapism or a way to gain new perspectives on the world.

With a carefully designed and descriptive PPT, Jessie explored a selection of movies that she had recently watched. For example, she introduced the movie Before Sunrise as her favorite romance movie of all time. With only a few hours to spend with each other, the two main characters fall in love through conversations against the backdrop of Vienna. Drive, on the other hand, was an instance of a movie that did not work for Jessie. She cautioned the audience against watching it and expressed her enjoyment of ranting about cinema.

Top Gun is the classic prequel to the recent Tom Cruise blockbuster. In Bruges explores an interesting premise of two hitmen and their latest mission. The Royal Tenenbaums tells the story of a complicated family and is Jessie’s favorite Wes Anderson film. She concluded her presentation with one of her favorite movies of all time, Come and See, which depicts the horrifying realities of World War II.

As Jessie wrapped up her speech with an advertisement for the biweekly movie night, the audience was utterly captured by the wide array of movies she had discussed. Through her presentation, she conveyed the meaning of watching movies and encouraged more people to find enjoyment in movies.
