G6-7 | English Storytelling Competitions
In the cool breeze of late autumn, the exciting story telling competition for SHSID G6-7 students finally arrived. In order to present the most exciting stories, each student had to pass through several trials. First, they had to repeatedly revise and polish their speeches. After strenuous reworking and redrafting, the students participated in the first round of presentations in class. The best speakers selected by the English class then took part in a second selection in their grade. Finally, the top speakers who passed the selection stood on the final stage.

The YD class on October 19th kicked off with a speech from the G6 students. The theme of this speech was adventure. The six contestants were 6(7) Roger Liu, 6(9) Eva Shi, and 6(3) Jasmine came from H/H+ level, and 6(4) Juno Liao, 6(6) Daniel Hou, and 6(12) Eason Chen came from S/S+ level. Skilfully utilizing writing skills learned in English class, these imaginative contestants presented whimsical stories to the audience. One of them created a story about two girls who rescued her family with love, while another told the story of a girl who was met with an accident and came across with her relatives again. The contestants’ stories were compelling, and all of them fell in line while fully enjoying the game.

Ultimately, Juno from 6(4) won the S/S+ category and Jasmine from 6(3) won the H/H+ category. Congratulations to these winning students and all the participants!

Next, the 7th graders brought their exciting storytelling presentations. The goal of their speeches was to enhance, modify or rewrite an ancient Greek myth. The six G7 contestants were 7(7) Emily, 7(9) Nathan Liao, and 7(10) Joshua Gao from S/S+ level, and 7(4) Alex Lu, 7(6) Mengling Cao, and 7(8) Elaine Fan from H/H+ level. In the competition, the contestants showed their talent and confidence, and vividly presented their stories in fluent and natural English. Some of them called for mutual understanding through stories close to their lives, some emphasized that a sincere heart is more important than fame and fortune, and some students told the story of a marvellous journey through the world with the backdrop of the ancient Greek fighting arena.

The wonderful performance of the six students won the appreciation and applause of all teachers and students. In the end, Emily from 7(7) won the S/S+ category and Alex from 7(4) won the H/H+ category. Congratulations to these winning students and all the participants!

We would like to thank the contestants for bringing creativity and talent to this wonderful storytelling contest. We are also thankful for the dedication of ASB members, teachers, and staff behind the scenes, the event was a success. This competition not only practiced students' English expression skills, but also stimulated their creativity and imagination. We look forward to seeing students continue to tell their own stories and show their own growth in the future.
