Grade 11 Assembly: Roller-skating
At the October 7 assembly, the juniors listened to a speech delivered by Tristan from class 11(2) about roller-skating, a sport that has just gained popularity throughout the last decade. Tristan organized his lecture into four major sections: the introduction to the sport and its origin, the introduction to the competitions of the sport, his experience while participating in the sport, and his takeaways from this sport.
Within this presentation, the general background knowledge of the sport was firstly introduced. Tristan talked about different types of roller-skating as well as different types of roller-skating competitions, including free style slalom and speed slalom, both of which were held during the recent Hangzhou Asian Games. Several videos of each competition were provided to better help understand roller-skating competitions while giving a general impression of what roller-skating is like. After that, Tristan talked briefly about his experiences roller-skating and his takeaways from the sport. He shared how he constantly had the thought of quitting the sport, while what really drives him forward every time is the passion and love towards the sport. Lastly, he stresses the importance of being able to keep on doing the things you like and not getting overwhelmed by temporary failures. Despite the fact that many students might have already heard about roller-skating, this lecture provided them with insights of decision-making and persistence in life.
