Pudong Campus | Cubby Organizing Competition
It has been a month since the first graders entered SHSID from kindergarten. For the first time in their lives, they are faced with the responsibility of having a myriad of books in their backpacks and having their own cubby. Although many of the children are already able to organize their own pencil case, the majority hastily stash their stationery and backpacks into their cubbies without category or method.
The purpose of this cubby organizing competition is to allow students to practice the process of sorting, and develop a preliminary understanding of the hard work and joy of labor. The teacher showed the class how to organize a cubby, helping students master some basic methods of organizing items and develop good habits of organizing. It can cultivate students’ ability and awareness to do things on their own, feel the joy of self-care, and have a preliminary ability to take care of personal life.
In the cubby organizing competition, children who complete quickly and effectively can receive a "commendation". The commendation paper reads: "Wow, your cubby is very neat, you deserve a special treat!"
This activity enables all students to understand the importance of self-discipline and self-care and feel the joys of being independent.
