Middle and Primary School Math Department: “ I Think, Therefore I Am” 7th Grade Summer Homework Showcase
At the beginning of the school year, the 7th graders gathered together to present the results of their math reading. This summer homework was not only a reading task, but also a math journey. It aimed to cultivate students’ interest in math and enhance their reading ability. The students could freely choose math-related books. With the knowledge they gained, they then shared their reading experience through exciting posters.

The students chose a variety of math-related books and used concise posters to present summaries and highlights of the books, and shared their epiphanic moments in reading. The artwork not only demonstrated their love of math, but also honed their independent thinking skills. As one student shared, “The math puzzles in the book made me feel like a math detective, tracking down clues and solving puzzles.”
It was exciting to see students not only focusing on the content of the book, but also actively thinking about expanding and enhancing the questions. They pondered what questions they would ask if they could interview the authors of the book and what new directions in math they would explore if they were the authors. This deep thinking demonstrated their passion and curiosity about math.
In the end, all students in the grade voted for the best work, which was recognized with a public display at grade level. This award not only recognized the students’ hard work and creative thinking, but also encouraged them to continue exploring the field of mathematics in the future.

This event shines a light on math, and develops students’ reading skills and independent thinking. Through math-related reading, they gained a deeper understanding of the application and value of math. Moreover, they learned to connect abstract mathematical concepts to real life, paving the way for future math journeys.
