Puxi Campus Primary Math Department: Exploration, Creation, and Artistry in Mathematics

September 18, 2023

As the picturesque scenery of late summer unfolded, and the school premises adorned themselves with September's beauty, the students embarked on a creative and challenging summer break. During this summer, they showed their exceptional mathematical talents through their own creations, immersing themselves in the charm and diversity of mathematics. With their paintbrushes, creativity, and imagination, they painted the wonderful world of mathematics, adding a touch of artistic vibrancy to their summer.

G2 Mathematical Exploration: Baking Business and Infinite Fun

During the holiday break, the second grade students became the "masters" of a bakery shop, creating their own pastry displays. However, their displays not only showed the delicious bakeries, but also concealed a wealth of mathematical information and math puzzles to challenge young readers. With each transaction and calculation, the joy of mathematics was palpable. The children's mathematical thinking naturally blossomed in this context, and the interdisciplinary collaboration between art and math has added a beautiful touch to the corridor, creating a stunning sight.

G3 Mathematical Exploration: Artistic Clocks and Mathematical Lives

Third grade students have tapped into their ingenuity and design abilities to create an original clock centered on the theme "My 24-Hour Life". This project showed their individual daily routines, providing a glimpse into their vibrant summer lives. Each student’s clock visually segments a day into various activity periods. These periods include waking up, having meals, engaging in outdoor activities, completing homework, and participating in hobbies or recreational activities. The students have infused their clocks with personalized elements, reflecting their unique interests and hobbies. This project developed their mathematical literacy, honed their time management skills and showed their artistic prowess. Simultaneously, this endeavor offered students an opportunity to share and understand the daily lives of their peers, fostering camaraderie among classmates.

G4 Mathematical Project: Radiant Mathematics, Dazzling Mathematicians

The fourth grade students delved into the fascinating world of mathematics. Some followed in the footsteps of famous mathematicians like Archimedes, Euler, and Fermat, studying their lives and work. Driven by the spirit of exploration, they conducted in-depth research on their great contributions. Others used perspective drawings and geometric shapes to convey the beauty of mathematics. They created perspective drawings to demonstrate the depth of space and the power of mathematics. Their works transported viewers into a marvelous three-dimensional world, showing their profound understanding of mathematics and artistic expression.

G5 Mathematical Project: Flourishing Creativeness, Infinite Math

Grade 5 math projects provided a platform for boundless creativity. The students produced videos creatively explaining mathematical concepts they had learned. Some designed exciting mathematical games that required players to apply their acquired knowledge to succeed. Others crafted engaging math review booklets filled with problems and solutions in pop-up book format. Some wielded the magic of art, designing exquisite math posters that conveyed various mathematical concepts through graphics and images. Furthermore, some students, inspired by numbers, composed enchanting numeric poems that infused their love for mathematics into words.

These astounding mathematical works not only showed the students' creativity but also deeply reflected their understanding of mathematics. This summer, the students used their projects to communicate the beauty and limitless possibilities of mathematics. Their works not only made mathematics more intriguing and appealing but also inspired other students to explore the enchanting worlds of mathematics and art. The new school year promises to be filled with creativity and exploration, and we eagerly anticipate witnessing more mathematical works of art!
