September 12, 2023

It has been two weeks since the official start of the school year, and during this time, the students at Pudong Campus have displayed a high level of enthusiasm for learning by actively engaging in class and expressing their opinions. In addition to their classroom engagement, students reviewed their previous learning by presenting their summer homework and depicted a different aspect of their vacation experiences through creative artwork and heartfelt speeches. Take a look!

Second Grade

With the theme "Birthday Handbook of Love," Grade 2 students presented a warm and creative birthday gift in the form of a poster. They shared their most memorable birthdays, as well as those of their family members, and contemplated future celebrations. Every picture and word in the posters conveyed the children's deep feelings for their families.

In Mathematics, Grade 2 created a "My Bakery" poster showcasing various goods through drawings, including donuts, ice cream, toast, croissants, and more. Subsequently, the children combined their knowledge of money with basic arithmetic facts to further illustrate the products sold in their bakery. This vividly applied their mathematical knowledge to real-life scenarios.

Third Grade

Under the theme "My 24 Hours," the third graders creatively presented the sequence and time allocation of various daily activities using a circular format. By participating in the creation of this time circle, students gained a preliminary understanding of fractions and a more intuitive grasp of their own daily lives, appreciating the importance of wise time management.

Fourth Grade

As the summer holiday came to a close, soon-to-be 4th-grade students at SHSID undertook a summer homework assignment centered around the world of books. They selected a novel from a curated list and embarked on crafting creative book reports. Evidently, they already harbored a love for literature. Their reports covered essential elements such as identifying the setting, analyzing characters, summarizing the plot, and sharing personal opinions and recommendations. The 4th-grade English teachers were highly impressed by their new students' abilities and praised their dedication to summer reading. These book reports were not merely assignments but also windows into their imaginations and budding literary tastes.

As they prepare to enter the 4th grade at SHSID, these young readers are undoubtedly equipped with a passion for literature that will serve them well in the upcoming school year.

Fifth Grade

This past summer, students entering 5th grade English selected one of their favorite books and completed a book review as part of their remarkable holiday homework assignments. First, they composed a book review for a book of their choice, analyzing characters, plots, and settings in detail. This book review encouraged critical thinking and helped students develop the ability to evaluate and discuss various aspects of a story. Second, they unleashed their creative faculties by crafting a narrative titled "A Day With My Favorite Book Character." Students reveled in adventures with characters like Harry Potter, sharing hugs with Augie, and defeating the White Witch! This exercise promoted creative writing skills, allowing students to express their imagination and ideas through storytelling.

The Summer Vacation Homework not only provided students with practical exercises to apply what they learned in class to real-life situations but also nurtured their hands-on abilities and creative thinking. Through the exhibition, students enhanced their communication and cooperation skills. The exhibition instilled confidence and a sense of achievement in the students, injecting vitality and enthusiasm for the start of the new semester. We eagerly anticipate their creation of even more wonderful works!
