G1 | Puxi Grade 1: The Most Impressive Storyteller

June 15, 2023

A story can be every child's best friend during their childhood. Children absorb knowledge, grow and thrive in stories. The touched story is watered with love, which makes children more generous and empathetic; in the adventurous story, children adventure with the main characters, and they learn to be brave and how to face difficulties and failures; the science fiction story brings their imagination into reality. The story brings novelty, touch, joy, and tension to the children... The Story Telling Competition also gives the first-grade children an opportunity to express their love for the story. During the activity, children prepare a favorite story to act out in front of the class. Each class will also select a storyteller with the best performance to participate in the grade competition.

On May 29th, the first-grade children held class storytelling speeches in their classrooms. Familiar stories such as The Emperor's New Clothes, Cao Chong Cheng Xiang and Little Red Riding Hood were presented one by one. The speakers of the stories all showed their talent. Some attracted everyone's attention with vivid tones, grandma wolf whispers in a rough voice, and sly fox whispers; some of them won applause with their vivid body language, expressing their regret after drawing extra feet for a snack; some even deliberately dressed up as the protagonists in the story, and made exquisite props to improve the storytelling. In the end, everyone selected the child with the most wonderful performance, and he/she would represent the class in the grade finals.

On the afternoon of June 12, the final of the Story Telling Competition was grandly opened in the auditorium on the 4th floor of the primary school building. Facing the crowded audience, the 8 story speakers were not stage-frightened at all, and they told us vivid, interesting, and far-reaching stories. The young contestants vividly presented the characters and plots in the story with their fluctuating tones and expressive body movements. The small audience also was also absorbed in each of the stories following the narration of the contestants. They were nervous because the protagonist was in danger, happy because kindness was rewarded, and laughed out loud at the protagonist's foolishness. As soon as the voice of the story fell, there was thunderous applause.

The two non-native Chinese learners also showed everyone their learning achievements over the past year, and they vividly interpreted the two stories. During the intermission, the teacher prepared a game of "Look at the pictures and guess the story" for the little audience. However, these pictures would not trouble these children who had read a lot. As soon as the picture came out, countless little hands were raised. Finally, after fierce competition, the speaker Doris from Class 1(4) won the first place, the speaker Michelle from Class 1(2) and the speaker Kaitlin from Class 1(8) were awarded second. The other participants got the third places.

The Story Telling Competition is a beneficial activity, which not only can exercise children's language expression ability, but also cultivate children's imagination and creativity. We hope that children can maintain their love and interest in stories, let the best partner of stories continue to accompany them in their growth, and we also hope that they can continue to tell good stories and become real story kings.
