Grade 11: Career Day Visits
The Career Day event on June 7, a Wednesday afternoon, was held in different firms, providing students an opportunity to gain a thorough "insider" understanding of the companies. Differing from previous Career Day events, students were able to visit the actual companies, gaining a detailed understanding of work inside the companies and a memorable experience. Students were given the choice of companies they would like to visit so that they could explore new fields or dive deeper into those they already hold interest in.
After buses arrived at the different companies, Career Day finally began. Though different in manner as compared to past CareerDay events, a great variety of choices and widely ranged fields were still available, allowing most students to get to learn more about the career they are passionate about. Fields provided ranges from finance to medicine to music. Students were able to explore boldly and learn fully at large companies in a variety of industries.
3D Medicines provided students with an introduction to their business, which focuses on innovative early-cancer diagnosis methods and medical-machinery manufacturing. The students had the opportunity to observe advanced mechanical equipment in action, including a machine that automatically tests COVID-19 test tubes. Then, they put on white robes and shoe covers to visit the research room, enjoying exciting and enriching content that entertained and educated. Throughout their journey, students gained precious experience.
The e-commerce company Shanghai Youyi introduced milk powder companies and their detailed pipeline process from decomposition to delivery. The Bank of East Asia took students on a tour of a museum of banking history, displaying old checks and colorful bills. Students also had the opportunity to view the mock safes, calculators, and printers used in banks. Yamaha allowed students to experiment on an advanced piano with many features, including remote connection and automatic playing. Zhihe Law Firm took students on a tour of the entire firm, and they explored the entire facilities. Alongside learning some basic legal terminology, students actively asked questions about career paths, job descriptions, and the work atmosphere. NYU Shanghai took students on a campus visit of their classrooms, library, and lounge, providing a glimpse into university life.
This activity gives the students a shadowing effect over the firms students hold curiosity in and jobs they show interest in, aiding important decisions such as choosing a suitable major and career path. No matter if students took this as an adventure to explore new paths or a chance to reinforce their interests, this Career Day was a precious experience for all.
