High School Biology Department: "The Diverse Campus" — 2023 Biology Week

From May 29 to June 1, the 2023 Biology Week was held in full swing. The theme of this year's Biology Week was "the Diverse Campus", which aimed to showcase the infinite possibilities and charm of life sciences to all students, and to raise the awareness of biodiversity conservation.

During the week-long event, the Biology Department prepared a series of interactive activities and provided an open platform for students to experience an immersive journey into the world of life.

Online biology knowledge contest

The "Do you know that... ?" online biology knowledge contest attracted a large number of students. The competition was a single-player, score-accumulating format, with questions ranging from macro topics such as evolutionary ecology to micro areas such as molecular genetics. After several days of fierce competition, several students finally topped the scoreboard, demonstrating their unparalleled biological knowledge and scientific literacy. All students' interest in biology and learning effectiveness were also further enhanced during the process of answering the questions.

Bio Sci-Fi fiction

The development of biotechnology and human activities have undoubtedly made students fantasize about the future world. After receiving many submissions from students, the outstanding works were displayed during this Biology Week. The students not only created a series of imaginative and artistic science-fiction works by combining many elements such as humanistic thoughts, biological experiments, and technological scenarios, but also inspired the public to explore and think about the ethical and social issues caused by artificial life through excellent plot conception.

This showcase not only highlighted the creativity and strength of SHSIDers, but also sowed the seeds of imagination for all students.

Frontier lecture

On June 1, Dr. Shijun Weng, professor from the Institute of Brain Science, Fudan University, was invited to give a lecture on the science of retina in the B1 recording room of the Zhentao Building, which attracted many students and teachers. In a series of interactive visual games and cutting-edge visual research results, all the students and teachers benefited a lot from the lecture.

Find the fantastic lives on SHSID campus

As time passes, the SHSID campus continues to be energized and alive in the hearts of all SHSIDers. The vibrant atmosphere cannot be separated from the rich biodiversity of the campus. As the reserved program of this Biology Week, students recorded the grasses, flowers, birds, insects, and fish that they could find on campus in the form of videos. With the encouragement of these impressive works, we believe that more students can slow down their hurried steps, feel the power and beauty of life from within the campus, and plant the concept of biodiversity conservation in their hearts.

The 2023 Biology Week came to a successful conclusion, bringing a great harvest to all the students and igniting new sparks of inspiration for their further biological exploration. We look forward to seeing SHSIDers create more exciting possibilities for the future!
