Puxi G1-3: Celebrating Children's Day!
Last Thursday marked the annual Children's Day, and G1-3 of SHSID Puxi campus was transformed into the "SHSID Theme Park" for the students to enjoy the festive occasion to the fullest.
The morning theme was "Exploring the Science Fair," with 1st to 3rd-grade students taking center stage. These young students were filled with curiosity and a passion for science. In order to showcase their scientific ideas to other children, they became "little scientists," setting up their own booths with explanatory posters, videos, and live demonstrations of their scientific experiments. Do you know how to make red turn blue using bubble drinks? Do you know how a touchless trash can is made? Do you know how to create light using natural materials when stranded in the wilderness? The young scientists vividly described their scientific experiments, while the young audience listened with great interest and admiration.
To make the Science Fair more engaging, each child received a "Bingo card" and tried to visit as many booths as possible, listening to the fascinating presentations by the young scientists and completing different themed Bingos! Moreover, as the children explored the booths, they also engaged in "immersive interactions" with the surroundings. The teachers had hidden various scientific tools throughout the building, and the children needed to search carefully to become qualified "science enthusiasts." The walls also displayed scientists from different eras, and each scientist presented a question for the children to answer. The children enthusiastically participated in this timeless scientific dialogue.
After the Science Fair concluded, the children rushed to their respective classrooms to take part in fun activities organized by their classes. Some were solving riddles, some were exploring the joy of mathematics through games, and others were conducting scientific experiments. Smiles brightened the hallways of the elementary school, and laughter could be heard everywhere.
After lunch, the children's choir began a flash mob performance on the lawn in front of the elementary school building. The girls wore beautiful performance dresses, while the boys sported small bow ties, all under the guidance of Choir Teacher Zhang. They raised their voices and sang in harmony. The sound of their singing flowed like a babbling stream, washing away the summer heat and bringing a refreshing coolness.
In the afternoon, grades 1-3 arranged a special celebration activity called the "Children's Day Carnival." Each class set up different games for students to challenge. If they succeeded, the teachers would stamp two marks on their collection cards, and even if they don't succeed, the students still receive a participation stamp. Finally, students can exchange their accumulated stamps for prizes.
The activities commence, and the 1st to 3rd-grade students eagerly ran to various game stations, competing with one another to showcase their talents and skills. Children skilled with chopsticks excel in the "Chopstick Relay" competition. They skillfully secured a small ball between two chopsticks and quickly raced from one end of the classroom to the other in a relay. The music-loving children were already dancing freely on the "stage" as the standard of their movements determines who received the two stamps. Throwing games also received unanimous praise from the children. In "Pot-throwing," students needed to throw arrows into pots placed in front of them, while in "Tic Tac Toss," two individuals competed to form a line of five sandbags in a 9-square grid. The children in the "Pouring until 50g" classroom were eager to participate, pouring water into a beaker until it reached a weight of 50g. Each child carefully poured water into the cup, stopping at the perfect moment. Time flied as the games unfolded one after another, and before long, the collection cards were filled with stamps. When the activities came to an end, every child realized how quickly time had passed, wishing they could have more.
The gift exchange segment truly exhilarated everyone. Different numbers of stamps corresponded to different prizes. The arithmetic skills and strategic planning learned in math class now came into play, as the children carefully planned which prizes they wanted to exchange for based on the number of stamps they had obtained. Each child left with their bags full.
Childhood is about laughing heartily with friends, and childhood is about joyful growth through each SHSID school activity. This Children's Day, the children immersed themselves in the fantastical world of science, reveling in beautiful melodies, and experiencing joyful growth through fun games, making it an unforgettable holiday.
