Exploring the Harlem Renaissance through Poetry and Jazz Dance

The Harlem Renaissance was a significant period for African American culture and Grade 9 English classes successfully captured the uniqueness and creativity of this era. In May, by incorporating different forms of art and expression, students were able to fully immerse themselves in the history and culture of this movement.

Through poetry recitations and performances, students learned to appreciate the beauty and meaning behind each work. The historical background and cultural context were also explored, allowing students to better understand the significance of the Harlem Renaissance.

Furthermore, by learning basic swing dancing techniques, students were able to experience the music and style of the time and gain a deeper understanding of the close connection between jazz and literature. This joint classroom not only taught students about the Harlem Renaissance, but also allowed them to fully immerse themselves in the era and feel its creative energy.

The students were able to deepen their appreciation of poetry as a language art and gain a better understanding of the significance of African American culture in history.
