Puxi G1: The World of Mathematics
First-grade students have found their exploration in the world of mathematics more interesting after learning about the perimeter and area of figures. This week, Students have drawn Minecraft selfies of themselves. They drew their "Minecraft self-portraits" on the grid given by the teacher, using the Keynote software learned in the computer class. Then, they counted the perimeter and area of the face according to the requirements of the questions.
The black rectangular grid was used to represent hair, and the grid lines could be clearly seen by reducing the opacity, which is a skill they have learned in the computer class. After a while, neat bangs, air bangs, watermelon heads, all kinds of hairstyles appeared on the paper. They filled the faces with skin color, and used several rectangles to represent the eyes, nose and mouth. Some eyes were crooked, appearing to be happy with the teacher's performance. Some had big eyes and round mouths, probably surprised by some new scientific knowledge. Smiling faces quickly filled the entire grid. Finally, it was time to count perimeters and areas. One by one, students counted carefully with the help of their fingers. After counting, they breathed a sigh of relief.
Within a short time, the classroom really seemed to have entered "Minecraft", and each “pixel man” was playing and learning in the world of mathematics. Such activities only enabled children to grasp the concept of perimeter and area, but also cultivate their creativity and artistic sense. They then could also share their work with classmates and parents to show their achievements, allowing our children to learn through playing and play while learning, successfully achieving interdisciplinary cooperation between Math and Computer.
