Information Session of the Invention Convention China (ICC)

May 11, 2023

On May 9, 2023, the organizers of the Invention Convention China visited SHSID and delivered a presentation about the ICC competition at the Lecture Hall of the Zhentao Building. The Invention Convention Worldwide (ICW) is a K-12 invention education program held by the Henry Ford Museum that teaches students problem-identification, problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and creativity skills, and also builds confidence in invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship for life. The ICC is the selection competition for the ICW. It has been included in the whitelist of 2020-2025 for primary- and secondary-school competitions by the Ministry of Education. Students who are interested in scientific innovation attended the information session.

First, the organizers introduced a warm-up session through an interesting activity called "Paper Challenge." The activity consisted of three students in a group. One student held the two ends of the paper in one hand, while the other two students were told to think about how to use the paper in their hands to make the paper swing more than 30 degrees. This activity aroused everyone’s curiosity. They put their heads together and successfully solved the problem in different ways. In addition, the organizer gave several stories of the inventions and inventors around us in some classic movies such as Batman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, as well as Steve Jobs, etc. In the pursuit of innovative exploration, the harvest is not only the research achievements and medals, but also the valuable experiences of failures. Besides, one can meet like-minded friends and solve problems together to help communities and make life better around us.

Through this information session, the students were able to learn about the process and implementation of this competition and the process of exploration and invention. We believe that, in the near future, the young inventors will emerge and participate in all kinds of scientific and innovative activities, and we wish them all the best as they go further down the road of exploring science!
