G7: Talent Show — The Clash of Cultures

May 8, 2023

On the afternoon of May 4th, deafening applause and screams came from Xianmian Hall. The reason behind the excitement was the seventh-grade talent show.

A behind-the-scenes video kicked off the activity. Every scene in the video showed the hard work and effort the students paid for this talent show. All these scenes came together, like a flowing stream, trickling through the rehearsal scenes of each performance, and finally merged into the words of “Grade 7 Talent Show”. As the seconds counted down little by little, the students all felt silent. Just when the seconds counted to zero, four student hosts took the stage to announce the start of the talent show.

This talent show brought together a variety of performances, bringing together many different cultures and styles, which incited everyone’s curiosity.

The K-Pop performance "Fearless and Solo Remix" at the beginning rose waves of applause. The song “Oops” that followed made the audience hum the melody involuntarily.

The melodic music of the classical pieces "Haydn's Concerto in C Major, the third movement" and "Hey Jude” reverberated in Xianmian hall, showing the style of orchestral instruments.

The Latin dance performance "Goose Bumps" showed the charm of western dance with enthusiastic and confident dance steps. The song "Someone You Loved" left a deep impression on everyone with the beautiful singing voice of the students and the applause of the audience.

Chinese culture was also presented in many performances. The dances "Ding Buqiao" and "Tan Chuang" showed the elegance of Chinese dance, and the light and soft dance postures almost like flowing water made all the audience indulge in it.

Some students even brought the traditional cross talk "Internationalization", which combined Chinese culture and Western languages in a humorous way and made everyone laugh.

The collision of various cultures in the talent show was far more than that. The students also sang the song "Ich Gehor Nur Mir". The German, English, Chinese and Korean in the song fully combined the languages of various countries, showing the integration of multiple cultures.

Besides, the "Butterfly Lovers", the beautiful Chinese songs played by western piano and string instruments, demonstrated diverse cultures as well.

The teachers also brought their dance "I am". The lively dance showed the energetic side of the teachers and made the students scream and applaud continuously, bringing the talent show to its biggest climax.

This talent show came to an end in a video, which recorded every detail of this year, and also showed the students' sincere wishes for the 30th anniversary of Shanghai High School International Division. Xianmian hall was filled with the screams and shouts of the students when they saw familiar faces on the big screen.

Before the end, the teachers presented awards to the outstanding performances. Finally, the talent festival ended with the cheers of the award-winning students and the aftertaste felt by the audience.
