Puxi Campus G1-G3 | Parents Meeting: Accompanying Growth, Hand in Hand

May 4, 2023

In order to further strengthen the close relationship between the school and the family, teachers and parents, and to achieve the goal of home-school cooperation to jointly cultivate children, Grade 1-3 in Puxi Campus held offline parents meetings (i.e. parents lecture) on April 25th, April 27th and May 4th respectively.

The parents meeting was divided into two parts: the grade meeting and the class meeting. Parents stepped into the campus full of spring, and first participated in the grade meeting in the auditorium of the primary school section, which was given by the grade leader and the lesson preparation leader of each subject. The three grade leaders introduced the moral character education and independent learner training measures of their respective grades.

The moral character education for Grade 1-3 revolves around the six core keywords of HEROES. The keywords for G1 and G2 are Honesty, Encouragement, Respect, Organization, Enthusiasm and Sharing, and the keywords for G3 are Helpfulness, Empathy, Responsibility, Optimism, Effort, and Self-management. Every month, each grade carries out activities around a word. The children keep these keywords in mind, practice them hard, and vote to find the little heroes around them who demonstrate this virtue, help each other, and grow together.

In the Personal Growth class, the “Facing Challenge” series of anti-frustration courses were carried out around the growth mindset. When students face difficulties, we encourage them to reduce unnecessary frustration and worry, actively face various emotional problems, enhance self-confidence and self-motivation. We also teach students to put mistakes in perspective, since mistakes can help people learn lessons and make progress.

Cultivating independent learners has always been one of our most important educational goals. Teachers teach students what SMART goal is at the beginning of the semester, and then guide them to set reasonable goals based on the five standards corresponding to SMART. Halfway through the semester, students will reflect on the realization of the goal and start the next step target setting.

The parents meeting also contained parents lecture. In response to the confusion about how to help children develop good habits of independence at home, the three grade leaders offered advice for different age groups. For example, set a timer when doing homework to remind themselves to complete the homework within the specified time; give children timely positive feedback at home, set up a reasonable reward and punishment system; stimulate children's inner learning motivation, build self-confidence, maintain self-discipline, etc. "The best family education is to put sugar first, then salt, and then calcium. Sugar is to give children love and encouragement; salt is to teach children to face setbacks; calcium is to let children learn to be self-reliant."

Afterwards, the lesson preparation leaders introduced how each subject implements the training goals of independent learners from the dimensions of critical thinking, creative thinking, and inquiry ability, and also gave parents a lot of guidance on home-school co-education.

Then, the parents came to their children's class and started the long-awaited offline meeting with the homeroom teachers. What welcomed them was a tidy and clean classroom, a dazzling array of student works and a welcome speech full of surprises and touches. In some classroom, parents were watching videos of children’s daily campus life, full of laughter at the scene; in another classroom, the teacher was providing parents with suggestions on how to cultivate students’ good habits at home; the foreign teacher was talking about the highlights of the children in the class; the classroom next door was extremely quiet, and it turned out that the parents were writing words of encouragement for their children on the letter paper; the other classroom was extremely lively, and a simple game was prepared for parents, so that they could experience the daily fun of students...... The whole class meeting was very enjoyable.

Students cannot thrive without close home-school cooperation. This long-awaited offline parent meeting allows parents to enter the beautiful campus, experience their children's learning environment, and listen to teachers' voices face to face. Through the parents meeting, the parents had a better understanding of the school's educational philosophy and implementation methods and received intimate guidance on home-school co-education. As long as we work together, the children will definitely grow into independent learners better and faster.
