Grade 11 Assembly: Zheng Ming Club and Its Chinese Magazine

On April 13, the weekly assembly showcased students from the Chinese Magazine Club, Zheng Ming (争鸣), and offered a sneak peek of the upcoming issue of their magazine, Zhao Yang (朝阳).

Zheng Ming, a student-founded organization, aims to promote an appreciation for Chinese literature throughout SHSID. The club's primary output is the Chinese magazine Zhao Yang, which provides a platform for students to develop and showcase their interest in Chinese language and culture and offers a comprehensive magazine-making experience. The assembly was held in the XM auditorium, where the club members recruited new contributors from the junior audience.

Club leader Jonathan opened with a brief overview of the club's mission, followed with a detailed explanation of the art design department's role in graphic design, illustration, and mastery of software such as InDesign, Photoshop, or the online graphing tool Canva. He showcased some of the previous works designed for the magazine. Chief text editor Celeste explained the Text Editors' responsibilities, which include curating exceptional student works and correcting any grammatical mistakes. Head of publicity Lynn then elaborated on the role of the publicity team, who will manage the club's official WeChat account and promote the magazine after its release. She also invited anyone with experience in WeChat article writing to join the team.

With the introductions complete, Jonathan provided information on the article submission process for the upcoming issue. Students could submit their work by scanning the QR code in the PPT, using the mini-program(s) in WeChat group(s), or private-chatting directly with the club members. He encouraged anyone interested in writing to submit their work, and as a means of motivation, revealed that bonus points would be awarded to the authors of every selected piece in their Chinese term scores.

As the bell rang, the audience left the assembly with newfound knowledge about Zhao Yang and the accessibility of the platform for their writing interests.
