Pudong G3-5: An Inspirational Speech

April 14, 2023

On April 11th, G3-5 of SHSID Pudong Campus specially invited a guest of CCTV's "Reader" series, the world's first leg amputee to complete the "big iron" athlete, and the creator of the 513 kilometer leg amputee off-road world record, Mr. "One-legged Pan", to give an inspirational speech to teachers and students. Mr. Pan has compiled his own experiences into a set of "Life Beliefs" courses, hoping to help shape the resilient character of Chinese teenagers, guide them to boldly explore their inner selves, bravely explore life, and gain the ability to grow for life.

In this speech, Mr. Pan shared his story of resilience and positivity, starting from the lowest point of his life when he became disabled from a car accident. Through inspiring stories, he told the children that self-confidence does not come from external objects. Instead, it comes from their own inner strengths, mobility, and a sense of purpose. He also shared how he became optimistic and confident during failures and valleys and persevered in the face of difficulties. As he mentioned, "There's nothing terrible about failure, let's try another posture." The exciting story made the children's hearts surge. Mr. Pan also assigned small tasks for everyone to think about, encouraging communication and reflection.

At the end of the speech, the students eagerly raised their hands to ask questions about Teacher Pan, about his dreams and persistence. The exchange and interaction also pushed the activity to a climax.

We hope that by listening to Mr. Pan’s own experience, students can understand that even when encountering setbacks, they must strive to change their perspectives, find optimism and confidence, and then create infinite possibilities.
