Victorious Season Opener for Stallions’ JV Basketball
On the afternoon of March 23, the Stallions U15 boys’ basketball team traveled to NACIS and took on the Rams for their first game in the long-anticipated opener of the SSSBL season. The Stallions’ starters energetically opened the game with a vicious full court press, forcing multiple turnovers in the front court and getting easy buckets. Starter Andrew Lau managed 8 fast-break points in a row for the first quarter, lighting up the Stallions’ bench and stopped only by an NACIS timeout. With good defense and fast breaks, the boys set themselves up by 19 at halftime. Coach Gomez would let the Stallions’ benchers play for most of the second half, and the game ended with a big win (52-31) for the blue and gold.
This game is a good display of the Stallions’ basketball team, with 9 out of 12 players on our roster appearing on the score sheet. The leading scorer was bench player Haohao Zhou, who was perfect from the arc (2-2) and scored 12 points for the blue and gold, followed by Andrew Lau’s 10 points and Gavin Zhao’s 8 points.
On the defensive end, the Stallions performed equally well, with Ryan Zhang’s impressive 4 first-quarter steals out of the team’s 17 total steals.
Go Stallions!
