Grade 10 Assembly: Caring for Lung with Action

March 27, 2023

On March 22, at the Grade 10 assembly, William from 10(8) shared his experience on how he turned his passion for health and wellness into a reality through founding the Health One Club and participating in the Conrad Challenge competition. William's inspiration came from his experiences volunteering to support rural doctors in COPD screening and the loss of his great aunt to COPD. His mission is to enhance the physical and mental health of members of his community by promoting a healthy lifestyle and advocating for fair and accessible health services.

The Health One Club has five main activities that can be summarized with the word "BLAST" - Bike for Lung, Link for Lung, Art for Lung, Screen for Lung, and Treat for Lung. These activities include volunteer cycling activities, online medical education lectures, the exhibition of informative posters at primary hospitals, free respiratory disease screening services for the elderly, and lung rehabilitation through different therapies of music and exercise.

William not only founded the Health One Club, but also initiated a research program aimed at monitoring respiratory risk in homes, with the aim of combating respiratory diseases. His interest in this area was sparked during his time volunteering at the club. To bring his idea to fruition, he participated in the Conrad Challenge, a competition that combines STEM and business. His hope was to commercialize the product and make a real impact in the community. At last, William also encourages others to pursue their passions fearlessly, as it may lead to significant accomplishments in the future.
