Puxi Grade 2 Personal Growth Class: Goal Setting
Throughout this year, the Grade 2 students at SHSID Puxi campus have made strides in their independence and also taken greater ownership over their own development through the process of Goal Setting, Tracking and Reflection.
In the first semester, our children were introduced to SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound) Goals and were asked to set two SMART Goals for themselves, one academic and the other personal. These were written down into their individual goal books to follow up on throughout the semester or the whole year.
By writing down their goals, students felt much greater motivation to achieve what they had set out. With periodic check-ins, students had the chance to assess their own progress and to see if they were on the right path or if they needed to adjust their approach to reaching their targets.
At the conclusion of each goal-setting period, students reflected on their achievements and considered what they had achieved. If they fail to achieve their goals, how far they had come and what they could do next time to reach them. If they do achieve their goals, they would gain a sense of accomplishment and pride and then think about how to push themselves even further next time. Afterwards, students would start the cycle again by setting new goals or resetting old ones and continue their self-driven growth!
