Puxi Grade 1: Celebrating 100 Days at SHSID

March 13, 2023

An old man and an old woman were walking down the hallway of the first grade. The old man had white hair and was staggering. The old woman was wearing a vintage blue calico blouse with gray hair on top of her head, coughing as she walked forward. At this point, a few more elderly people appeared around the corner in the first grade. Why did all the energetic children turn into old men and women overnight? It turns out that March 9th was the 100th day of school for the first graders. They were celebrating by dressing up as 100-year-olds.

The costumes were really fancy. When you walked into each Grade 1 class, it was like entering a "retirement home". Look at this one, he was wearing a vintage curry suit, holding a cane, hunched over, stroking his white beard, and walking slowly to his cubby to get the materials for the next class. Then look at that one, her hair was getting white, her face was wrinkled a lot, wearing a vintage red dress. There were also some with gold-rimmed glasses, wearing a beret of the last century. These "old people" were shivering and doing their homework. It was fun!

The teachers also prepared craft activities for the students. Each “old man” or “old women” was able to make their own 100-day hat. They could draw with their favorite color, cut out their favorite shape, and put on a band for their little hat.

Looking back on the 100 days of school, you will be amazed at the changes in each kid. Some have developed good study habits, some can express themselves more courageously, some have learned important rules for interpersonal communication, and some have found confidence in the learning process. Each one is moving in his or her own way toward being an independent learner. The old man is a symbol of wisdom and composure, and we are confident that the children of SHSID will grow wiser and more mature in a healthy environment!
