G7 YD Class: Complexities of the Web

March 8, 2023

Children today are being raised in an era of technology and innovation. In this age of information, more and more kids and adults alike are relying on the internet for many daily tasks. However, since people can establish fake identities and profiles on the web, it is important for students to be educated about the dangers of social media. In today’s Youth Development class, teachers taught G7 students to be careful through a variety of interesting and comprehensive activities.

Though it has been mentioned multiple times in the past, teachers at SHSID have implemented a new method this semester. Instead of focusing on lectures and comprehensive examples, teachers encouraged students to have deeper discussions, increasing participation and an overall understanding of the topic of cyberbullying this year. By analyzing selected quotations, both teachers and students alike have understood more of different generations experiencing the age of technology and information.

Now that the internet is becoming more widespread and significant in many people’s lives, it is important to consider its effects. Even though it is a great resource as well as a great way to link people together across different cultures, it also poses many risks. There is no certain way to confirm the identity of anybody online, and there are always dangerous people and websites no matter what. By teaching students about these hidden dangers at a relatively young age, we hope we will be able to make students’ lives safer, even if just by a little.
