Puxi G1-3: Fire drills

March 2, 2023

Fire drills are an important part of safety education for students. The school insists on fire safety knowledge and normalizes fire drills. In order for students and teachers not to panic when encountering emergencies such as fires, the school organized a fire safety evacuation drill to avoid injury if a fire should occur. In the afternoon during the personal development class on March 2, the teachers and students from grades 1 to 3 of the primary school in Puxi Campus conducted a fire drill.

Before the fire drill officially started, the homeroom teachers taught fire safety knowledge to the students in detail in an interesting way. Matching game--students learned about fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, and escape maps; Vivid introduction--students learned about the locations of smoke detectors and fire alarms in the classroom; Watching videos--students learned the correct measures in case of fire and self-rescue if their own clothes catch on fire and how we can prevent fires in our lives; Survival test--consolidate safety knowledge and test students' decision in emergency situations. Fire awareness also needs to be aroused both at home and school. For this reason, Grade 1 to 3 of the primary school specially designed a "Family Fire Safety Parent-Child Activity" for students, which included a family safety self-assessment form, a mini family fire drill, discussion with parents about the meeting point after a fire, and hand-painted family escape routes, which has received positive support and praise from parents.

At 14: 50, the fire alarm sounded, and smoke rose everywhere. All the students and teachers immediately stopped what they were doing, and each class quickly assembled as a team. Under the leadership of the teachers, the students followed the escape route, covered their mouth and nose with their hands, and bent over to get out. There were also teachers at each emergency exit to evacuate the crowd and maintain discipline. After arriving at the designated place, the homeroom teachers counted the number of people and reported the class situation with color cards. The whole process was orderly. After confirming that all students arrived at the designated place safely, the homeroom teachers arranged for the class to evacuate in an orderly manner. The summary and reflection were conducted in the end, emphasizing fire protection and knowledge.

Accidents are unpredictable, but prevention awareness can be cultivated. Our school regards safety education as an important lesson, teachers taught students basic fire safety knowledge, self-protection methods in response to accidents, internalizes fire drills into students' self-experience, and SHSID is committed to building a safe campus. We believe that through this series of measures, we will be able to achieve a safe school environment!
