Grade 9: Assembly - Exploring Interests

On February 21, the SHSID freshmen had their first assembly of the new semester in the Lecture Hall of Zhentao Building. After some routine announcements, Jonathan from class 9(11) came up and gave a spectacular speech about exploring interests. He first gave the students some examples of academic interests and shared how he developed them (like attending activities such as Brain Bee and joining clubs like Chemistry Competition Club). Jonathan explained that despite not being able to get an award all the time, developing academic interests helps students build character and gain knowledge in their desired fields of study. Then, he told his peers about some of his non-academic interests, which included keeping fish, volunteering at hospitals, and examining plants. Jonathan was a nature enthusiast in the grade and hearing him speak helped more students understand how to better explore their interests and tailor their activities. His speech ended with an enthusiastic round of applause from the audience.
