G8 Service-Learning Group: Smile Charity’s First Activity in the New Semester
It was the second day of school, and SHSID grade eight service-learning group smile charity was ready to package scarves, which club members had knitted in last semester, hoping to give children living under extreme weather, poverty, or famine a bit of warmth and love when they mail the scarves to those children.
The bell rang, students rushed out of their homeroom and started to carry packages of scarves out of their lockers and homeroom storage boxes. In just a few minutes, thirty or so students had gathered in the classroom to do the packaging, and the scarves laid like mountains on two of the three tables.
By the inseparable and numerous scarves, the students first worked to fold all scarfs into rectangular shapes. In the meantime, three students started to write greeting cards for the children, hoping to give them a bit of encouragement and light in their harsh lives. In just a matter of minutes, all the scarves had been neatly folded, and the students started to work in pairs to put each scarf in plastic bags.
However, when everything seemed exemplary, the students faced a problem—they were running out of plastic bags. Hearing this news, students ran out to find the building’s cleaner and asked for multiple plastic bags.
After twenty minutes, the scarves all laid neatly in cardboard boxes, and the students were finished. This time, eight cardboard boxes filled with two hundred and eighty-five scarves were packaged, and the scarves were to be mailed to poverty-stricken areas in Guizhou: that includes 1) Panlong Poverty Alleviation and Relocation Community in Tongzi County, Zunyi City, 2) Children's Home in Baiguoshu Relocation Poverty Alleviation Community in Tongzi County, Zunyi City, 3) Children's Home in Ma Yuanyan Relocation Community in Chumi Town, Tongzi County, Zunyi City, Huangjia in Meitan County, Zunyi City 4) Children's Home in the Relocation Community of Shanbao Village, Jiuba Town, Tongzi County, Zunyi City 5) Children's Home of the Relocation Community in Ba, and 6) Children's Home of the Relocation Community of Shichao Township, Wuchuan County, Zunyi City.
