Lingang Campus G2: Anger Management

December 12, 2022

In daily learning and life, everyone wants to be happy and comfortable. However, human emotions are diverse in many ways, such as happiness, sadness, joy, and anger. But how do negative emotions arise? How do they affect our body and mind? In the personal growth class on December 7th, the second graders at SHSID Lingang campus had a deep conversation with their emotions and explored ways to effectively deal with their anger.

The personal growth session was centered around three questions: What makes you angry? What do you usually do when you are angry? What can we do to better handle angry emotions? Students expressed and boosted their understanding of angry emotions by watching videos, participating in discussions, and making posters. Many students said that sometimes they get angry because of some minor things that they don't like, such as losing an eraser, conflicts with their best friends or poor test scores. These daily chores may seem trivial, but they are the root cause of most students' anger. What can we do in the face of these negative emotions? Students worked in groups to create a poster about dealing with emotions -- "The Three DON’TS When You're Angry", which reminds us that when we lose control of our emotions, we should try our best not to hurt ourselves, not to hurt others, and not to damage public property. Finally, the children explored some good solutions by sharing a daily story, such as listening to a favorite song, taking a deep breath, counting from ten to one, doing twenty star-jumps, finding a quiet corner to sit in, talking to a trusted teacher or parent ... Each of these solutions is practical and can help us effectively deal with our little emotional monsters and quickly calm us down.

It is completely okay to have different emotions, and everyone has the right to express their emotions. Learning how to face emotions in a positive way, dealing with them and resolving them is a subject that everyone needs to learn. In our lives, we inevitably encounter things that bother us at one time or another. We hope that through this lesson, children will realize that they should learn to be the master of their emotions, learn to express and manage their emotions appropriately, meet challenges with a healthy and optimistic mindset, create beautiful moments, and enjoy school learning.
