Stallions Fend Off Hydras 68-64, Move to 2-1 in the SSSBL
On November 25, the boys’ varsity basketball team traveled the long journey to Guanghua to play their third SSSBL game of the season against the Hydras. With their record currently set at 1-1, the Stallions were insistent on taking the win.
The Stallions started the game strong, forcing multiple turnovers with their trapping defense. With the lineup of excellent pressure defenders such as Richard Huang, Wesley Yu, and Herman Lin, they were able to force turnovers and get steals that led to easy baskets, creating a 22-8 run in the first few minutes. However, the Hydras would get back into the game as the Stallions’ starters rested, quickly adjusting to the pressure and turning the tables behind their leading scorer Toby Lu. The Stallions were down by 3 at the end of the first half.
In the second half, the Stallions were determined to take the lead back. After a few mistakes and turnovers, the Stallions played with composure and were patient on every possession to put the ball in the right spot. Despite facing controversial calls from the referees, the players were putting all their efforts into the game, getting steals, and crashing the boards. Players such as Henry Li and Leon Yu finished the game with 13 rebounds and 6 offensive rebounds, respectively. In the last two minutes, the intense defense of the Stallions created offense opportunities; Wesley Yu, Jimmy Li, and Herman Lin each contributed 3 points that took the lead and secured the win. These players ended the game with 31 points, 13 points, and 12 points, respectively.
