Primary & Middle English Department: Congratulations to 2022 Youth Writing Competition Winners

December 1, 2022

Earlier this month SHSID students took part in a nation-wide youth writing competition. The students ranged in ages from 6 to 18 and were from cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. They could submit any unique piece of writing with a limit of 600 words. Two of our students won first prize out of 12 winners in the 6-9 age group and 12 winners in the 10-13 age group.

Lucas of class 2(6) won the 6-9 age group with his story , a thrilling story about a boy who time travels to ancient Rome. With an advanced vocabulary and impressive use of dialogue, Lucas won over the judges with his fanciful tale.

Derek of class 5(2) won the 10-13 age group with his story , a tale about musically talented twin brothers who were separated as infants but are reunited after a crazy coincidence and a kidnapping! The story is mature and touches on topics such as divorce, substance abuse, jealousy, forgiveness and empathy. Derek is also a former winner of SHSID’s Primary G4 & 5 Story Telling Competition 2021 and is a current finalist for this year’s competition.

Both articles of these two students will be published in the local magazine Urban Family.

SHSID is, no doubt, full of tremendously gifted students, and we are proud to see their talent being recognized and shared with the greater community!
