Stallions Qualify for the Jr NBA 2022-23 Season

November 16, 2022

The Stallions’ boys’ varsity basketball team accomplished their goal of making a return to the Jr NBA Shanghai League this week as they took down Jianping High School and Ulink Shanghai to qualify.

The Stallions had a tough time last season finishing at the bottom of the division and had to fight for the right to remain in the league for the new season.

The Stallions’ first meaningful game of the new season got off to a hot start with some stifling pressure defense that didn’t allow their opponents more than 20 points per quarter. Wesley Yu and Jonathan Li showed off their scoring abilities with 29 and 28 points, respectively. Sophomore guard Herman Lin would be a big factor defensively and on the glass. A large lead in the second half would allow varsity-newcomers Andy Ding, Leon Yu, Jerry Zhang, Wong Xiangyu, and Koen Schult get some valuable experience.

SHSID 65-55 Ulink

Playing the Broncos for the first time in 2 years, the Stallions would be faced with a new challenge on Tuesday. The Broncos came with size, but our Stallions didn’t back down. Jimmy Li did a good job holding down the paint and the Stallions’ guards put plenty of ball pressure on Ulink, forcing turnovers and creating fast break opportunities. Scoring would be spread out evenly between Wesley Yu (18), Jonathan Li (16), Jimmy Li (14), and Herman Lin (12).

This year’s Stallions have multiple scoring options that could cause problems for opposing defenses if they stay on the same page and play solid team basketball.

The Stallions will now await the start of the JrNBA season.
