Grade 11: SHSID Tennis Cup
Since the start of the pandemic, tennis matches or tournaments were rarely held at SHSID. As more activities were organized this semester, a group of students from the varsity tennis team (Alan, Jerry, Max, Frederick, and Clelia) organized the SHSID Tennis Cup to restore tennis’ visibility at SHSID and add some fun to school life. The tournament takes place from November 14th to December 2nd.
Fourteen teams registered for the tournament and each team consists of two to four players. To increase the spirits of the players, raffles are held each week, in which small tennis-related gifts are given out. To qualify for the next round, each team has to win two of the three matches (two are single-player games and one is a double-player game). Matches are to be held during lunchtime on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays every week with four teams playing each day. The specific arrangement of the matches was released the week before the initial game.
On Monday, November 14th, Team xabat played against Team Volleyball Basketball Football. The two teams played very close matches which were full of suspense. After playing the two singles games, each team won one match. This followed the tiebreaking match—the double-player game. The doubles match was exciting to watch as the scores climbed evenly, leaving the suspense to the final moments of the match. After saving two match points, Team xabat won the game, ending the November 14th matches.
In the coming weeks, more exciting matches will be held during lunchtime. Everyone is welcome to watch and cheer on friends and classmates!
