Grade 11: Basketball Team Tournament Champions
As the National Week break approached its end, students and teachers were back to school for the annual sports week. To kick off the long-awaited sports week, the high school basketball tournament entered its second round. The 11th graders once more demonstrated their athletic excellence and impressive teamwork.
On Saturday, October 8, the highly anticipated basketball games continued to take place on the outdoor basketball courts. The winning classes of the past games stepped onto the court with the audience’s cheers. Despite the games being held at lunchtime, which meant limited time for practicing and planning strategies, every player showed their ultimate strength aiming to bring their classes to the final round. We saw perfect layups, solid defense, and thrilling three pointers. The basketball coaches also cheered on these young athletes for their respectable sports spirit.
The match was decided by casting lots with the exception of 11(9) who skipped the second round and went straight in to the final. The game started with the match as follows: 11(6) vs. 11(10), 11(5) vs. 11(7). The detailed strategy and higher intensity of the games clearly showed the talents of the athletes. We saw two classes end the game with a gap of 13 points, whereas the other two classes only had a three-point gap. Our finalists were classes 11(7), 11(9), and 11(10).
The autumn chill shaped the perfect weather for the final matches. All three classes were very competent as students and were looking forward to snatching the championship title. The three classes played against each other one by one, which meant each class had to play two times. The winning class would be finalized according to the number of matches won by each class.
All of the games were very fierce and the scores were extremely close. Players' superb strategies impressed the audience and received countless cheers. The scores were as follows: 11(7) vs. 11(9) ended with 11(7) winning 8 to 7. 11(9) vs. 11(10) ended with 11(10) winning 8 to 4.
The championship match between 11(7) and 11(10) was a tie of 9 to 9 ending with an outstanding shot from class 7 in the very last second, filling that 1-point gap. The game then proceeded to two consecutive overtimes. As the overtime matches approached their ends, the champion of the 11th Grade Basketball Tournament was crowned as 11(10).
The annual basketball tournament not only demonstrated the ultimate passion of the students but also formed a titanium-like bond between the entire SHSID community under the name of sports. The final champion of the basketball tournament between the 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade champion classes is to be held on the day of the sports meet. As Sports Week was approaching, it is hoped that the basketball tournament could motivate and inspire more students to participate in sports.
