Grade 11 Assembly: Club Intros
During the assembly on September 22, 11th graders were introduced to some clubs which were recruiting new members. In the new semester, students are actively looking for clubs to expand on their activities and find new interests. While the Club Fair is a helpful event for this, the assembly is yet another way for them to learn about new clubs.
During this assembly, Tiffany Gui from class 11(2) introduced two clubs: the Chinese Painting Club and Smile Charity Club. She began her presentation with an overview of the Chinese Painting Club, which takes place every Monday afternoon, and delves into the creation of traditional Chinese-style artworks. She showed a few samples on the screen. The artworks may have seemed sophisticated and complicated, but it actually only requires a little practice. She recommended all interested juniors to join, whether experienced in drawing or not. Following this presentation, she also promoted the Smile Charity Club, which is dedicated to donating handknit scarves to elders. The club provides free yarn and offers lessons to novice knitters.
Jonathan Zhu from class 11(7) then promoted the Zhengming Club. The Zhengming Magazine is a regular publication that features articles written by students. The club welcomes anyone who wants to participate in the magazine-making process, whether revising a submission or designing a cover. Quoting Jonathan, “You will leave no physical trace behind at school after a few decades pass by, but your written work will always be kept here.” Hence, he encouraged students to record with words the experiences they have as teenagers.
The three clubs are very different in their activity content and aims; one of them may, perhaps, grasp the interest of a student. Best wishes to students at finding clubs they truly like and at making and leaving behind wonderful memories in the process for themselves and future generations.
