Grade 12 Assembly: My Summer as a Film Student

September 27, 2022

On September 23, senior students gathered in the Xianmian Annex to listen to an engaging assembly speech given by Alexandria. Specifically, she shared her experience as a film student in the USC summer program.

She first talked about living in the USC village, where she lived in a dorm in the freshman honors college. She then gave a brief overview of what she learned in the course, which was separated into two main parts: directing and cinematography. During lectures on directing, she was able to gain insights into screenwriting, scene breakdown, and ways to direct the audience. She was also able to learn about cinematography systematically, being taught how to position the camera as well as make use of the exposure triangle, color temperature, shot sizes, angles, and more.

She then talked about her filming projects, which constituted a huge portion of her grade. During the process of filming, she worked closely with her actors and other students enrolled in the course. While the filming process was physically and mentally distressing, it was also very entertaining and unforgettable for Alexandria. Students were all very intrigued by her experiences as a film student as the assembly speech came to an end.
