Puxi G1–3: Family-School Partnership

September 24, 2022

In order to strengthen home-school communication, enhance parents' understanding of the school, and promote home-school co-education, online parent-teacher conferences were held for grades 1-3 in Puxi campus.

On the evening of September 15, Grade 1 held an online parent meeting. The two homeroom teachers introduced the children's campus life in detail from the aspects of student growth, school educational philosophy, curriculum setting, and daily habit training. Through the detailed and comprehensive sharing by the teachers, the parents learned about the daily life of the students in school, felt the rapid growth of the children over the past two weeks, and their love and expectation for primary school life. At the same time, teachers also encouraged parents to actively cooperate with the school, listen to their kids’ ideas more, guide their children's emotions and problems positively, and help Grade 1 students to successfully complete the transition from kindergarten to primary school.

This parent meeting is like a reassurance, allowing parents to feel the love, care and responsibility of the school and each teacher for their children. They also expressed that through this parent meeting, they gained a deeper understanding of the school's educational philosophy and education methods, and they were full of confidence in creating a loving and healthy growth environment for students with the school in the future.

On September 22nd, G2 and G3 also held an online parent meeting. In the G2 parent meeting, in addition to the regular introduction, the teachers also introduced the core value "HEROES" of morality and character education in our school period. Each letter in HEROES corresponds to an excellent quality, “Honesty, Encouragement, Respect, Organization, Enthusiasm and Sharing”. Teachers will cooperate with parents to encourage students to become practitioners of these heroic qualities and to change the world.

G2 students also need "visualized" growth records on the way to becoming “heroes”. The teachers introduced the G2 class management system – Class dojo at the parent meeting. The students’ good study habits, classroom habits and every little kindness will be reflected in the dojo scores. Of course, the parts that the kids need to improve will also be recorded in the dojo system. Parents can keep abreast of their students’ dynamics at any time through Class dojo's growth records, and better cooperate with the school to guide their children to improve where needed.

In the third-grade parent meeting, the teachers encouraged the children to become independent learners, hoping that they would always maintain their thirst for knowledge, curiosity and enthusiasm, and actively explore unknown areas. When faced with novel and extensive knowledge, input it with full understanding instead of rote learning. When facing challenging knowledge, face the difficulty and gnaw the hard bones instead of giving up. When it is difficult to decide between right and wrong situations, it is necessary to have the courage of self-reflection and the courage to think critically.

To be an independent learner is of course inseparable from the good habit of setting goals. The third-grade teachers introduced that every half term, under the guidance of the teacher, the children set their own personal growth goals, academic goals, as well as spare time planning. A SMART goal should be specific, manageable, attainable, realistic and time-bound. After half a semester, the children will review the achievement of the goal, summarize the experience, adjust the direction, and then carry out a new round of goal planning.

The growth of children is inseparable from home-school co-education. All teachers appreciated and affirmed the support and cooperation of parents, and also provided parents with a lot of tips. Let us continue to work together, home and school, and set sail for students' dreams!
