Puxi Campus G1-5: Chinese Summer Vacation Homework
G1-3
At the beginning of the fall semester, all students in grades 1-3 at Puxi campus sat in the classroom with full harvests, ready to show their summer efforts.
For Grade 2 students, their summer homework was “making a love account". Students shared their birthday party which was prepared by their parents. They also talked about how to plan a birthday party with their fabulous ideas for their family members. In the process of accepting and giving, students gradually understood that "love needs to be returned". These students are learning to use their actual actions to repay the love.
The theme of the third grade was "If I am...". In another parallel universe, some students incarnate as Hermione in the Harry Potter story, practicing magic at Hogwarts. Some traveled to the Forbidden City hundreds of years ago, where they listened to the "voice" of each cultural relic. Others entered the animal world and lived happily with Charlotte the little spider... Third-graders rode the imaginary train and traveled into the world of literature, transforming into different characters, experiencing different lives, as well as exploring different fields. After returning to the real class, the students stood on the podium with a stomach full of feelings and talked about their "journey through".
G4-5
Between summer-hearth and winter-sun comes the autumnal breeze. At the beginning of the new semester, the students in grades 4 and 5 have demonstrated their rich and colorful summer life through summer holiday homework.
During summer, grade four students reviewed what they learned, acknowledged new knowledge, and got to know the news around the world. Students established the habit of reading news every day. Among all the news they read, they chose four stories that were most interesting to them and restated the content with their own words. Students also made delicate word books, collecting 20 words they found intriguing during reading. Our readers further investigated the meanings of the words and copied the sentences, synonyms and antonyms of the words. After that, students wrote a book review to share their thoughts about either a quote from the book or a character of the book or even a little detail in the plot, presenting the essence of the book again.
Last semester, the fifth graders read the series of books "Illustrated Chinese History for Children". During the summer holiday, they continued to explore "A Hundred Schools of Thought" and chose one to help make enrollment posters. The enrollment posters made by the students introduced the founders, outstanding alumni, ideological theories, representative works and contributions to social development of their own schools. Each student's poster is creative and rich in content.
The fifth graders also read the book, The Boy Jiali, and completed a four-week reading report. Students completed the reading report of corresponding contents while reading in weekly units. Through filling in the blanks, extracting good words and sentences, summarizing the character characteristics, writing paragraphs and other rich and diverse forms of answers, students understood the meaning conveyed in the book better.
At the same time, each student also made five "Book Recommendation Cards" to share with each other the good Chinese books they have read or are currently reading.
Summer vacation is not only a time for students to enjoy their holidays and relax, but also a good opportunity to increase their knowledge and improve their independent learning ability. The summer holiday homework prepared by the teachers has enriched the summer life of the students, and also enabled them to gain something in the summer and meet new challenges with a better state of mind.
