Social Sciences Department: Outstanding Results in Academic Competitions and Research Programs

The Social Science Department also encourages students to participate more in various academic competitions and scientific research programs. Our students have also achieved a lot this semester.

SHSID students performed well in the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Business competition. For team awards, they did an excellent job in the most competitive subjects of Business Management (National 1st) and of Marketing (National 3rd). In the new subject of Data Analysis, SHSID students challenged themselves and also placed 3rd nationally.

Also, SHSID students performed exceedingly well in FBLA Economics Competition, for individual awards, with all of the them being ranked nationally within the top 10 of the corresponding subjects; and for team awards, they were awarded National 1st place, and it was the first time in history that SHSID students had obtained this honor.

In the 2021-2022 USAD (United States Academic Decathlon) China competition, the 2 SHSID teams of 18 students from Grade 9 managed to carry home 1 gold, 6 silver, and 4 bronze medals nationally and 7 gold, 25 silver, and 27 bronze medals regionally. Overall, one team placed 3rd within the regional ranking and has qualified to go to the USAD National Finals.

In addition, in the NEC (National Economics Challenge), 7 of our students got full marks, and 12 students won the National Individual Gold Award. In the IEO International Economics Olympiad (International Economics Olympiad) regional competition, 8 of our students won “High Distinction” in both individual and team awards. In the BPC (Business Pioneer Case Challenge) Competition, 4 students from one team won the Gold Award in both Business Innovation and Business Simulation modules.

In addition to academic competitions, the Social Sciences Department also encourages more students to participate in scientific research programs. On the evening of June 8, they invited the winners of the S.-T. Yau High School Science Award, John Locke Writing Competition, and Yuanpei Young Scholars competition to share their experiences in scientific research and writing. They said they had deeply explored what they had had interests in and demonstrated outstanding abilities by creating original works.
